Investing in Knowledge: What We Learned at the Cognex European Partner Symposium
We believe the best machine vision solutions don't come from working in isolation. They come from continuously learning, challenging ideas and sharing experiences with other experts.
That's why two members of our engineering team, Iain Smith and Radu Cretu, recently travelled to Aachen, Germany, to attend the Cognex European Partner Symposium.
As one of Cognex's long-standing integration partners, Fisher Smith was invited to join fellow machine vision specialists from across Europe for several days of technical workshops, product demonstrations and engineering discussions.
Looking beyond today's technology
One of the biggest benefits of attending events like this is getting early visibility of what's coming next.
The symposium included sessions on Cognex's evolving OneVision cloud platform, collaboration tools, cloud security and the next generation of AI-powered smart camera technology. Rather than focusing solely on today's products, many of the discussions explored how manufacturers' requirements are changing and how machine vision will need to evolve to meet them.
For Fisher Smith, that means we're better prepared to recommend solutions that won't just solve today's problem but will continue delivering value in the years ahead.
Learning from Europe's best integrators
Technical presentations are only part of the experience.
One of the most valuable aspects of the symposium was the opportunity to meet other Cognex integration partners from across Europe.
Every integrator approaches machine vision challenges slightly differently. Sharing those experiences, discussing unusual applications and learning how others overcome difficult inspection problems helps us broaden our own thinking and ultimately benefits our customers.
As Project Engineer Radu explained:
"It was really interesting talking to other integrators about how they approach challenging vision applications. Everyone has different experiences and sharing that knowledge gives you new ideas that you can bring back into future projects."
Direct access to the people designing the technology
Unlike many conferences, the Cognex product development teams were on hand throughout the event.
That gave our engineers the opportunity to ask detailed technical questions, discuss challenging customer applications and gain a deeper understanding of upcoming capabilities.
Just as importantly, it gave Fisher Smith the opportunity to feed real-world customer experiences back to the people developing the products.
Customer feedback plays an important role in shaping future software features and hardware developments, helping ensure new technology solves genuine manufacturing challenges rather than simply adding complexity.
Bringing knowledge back to our customers
The presentations covered a broad range of topics, including:
- Developments in cloud-based vision platforms
- AI-assisted inspection and workflow improvements
- Collaboration tools for engineering teams
- Cyber security and cloud architecture
- Emerging smart camera capabilities
- Future trends affecting European manufacturing
While each session explored a different area of machine vision, they all shared a common theme: making vision systems easier to deploy, more connected and capable of delivering greater value from inspection data.
Relationships matter
Events like these are also about relationships.
Fisher Smith has worked closely with Cognex for many years and maintaining that partnership ensures we continue to receive early access to new technology, direct engineering support and ongoing training.
Of course, it wasn't all presentations and workshops. The symposium also provided opportunities to socialise with fellow partners, including a volleyball tournament where the Fisher Smith team proudly claimed bragging rights!
Continuous improvement
Machine vision is developing rapidly. AI, cloud connectivity and smarter software are changing what's possible for manufacturers.
By investing time in events like the Cognex Partner Symposium, we're investing in our customers too, ensuring every project benefits not only from our own experience, but from the latest thinking across Europe's wider machine vision community.
It's one of the reasons manufacturers continue to trust Fisher Smith to deliver practical, reliable and future-ready machine vision solutions.
