Structured Lighting

Structured lighting refers to lighting that is generated in a specific form, often by Lasers but also LED sources producing, lines, grids, spots, circles etc.

These can yield completely different results to standard lighting techniques and are often usesd to measure 3-D structure (heights/depths) or check the form or shape of a surface. In conjucntion with the right camera and software complete 3-D profiles of objects can be generated, inspected and measured.

They can also highlight surface variations and can allow features be separated from a backround of the same colour.
